Victoria: October to May
Victoria’s inner harbour is where I reside for the winter months, (October to the end of May) at Hidden Harbour Marina. Winter and Spring fishing is spectacular with fish ranging in size from 5 to 25 pounds. These feeder Chinooks are feisty and very good eating. As February rolls around Halibut season starts up. From March to May we fish all good tide cycles for maximum opportunities at these monsters of the deep. Timing for these Barn Doors (halis) is limited because of strong currents around the south end of Vancouver Island.
- 5 Hour Min. – $600
- Full Day – 8 hours of fishing – $900
- Time starts upon departure
Port Renfrew: June to September
Port Renfrew is a beautiful, scenic west coast drive only 2 hours north of the City of Victoria. Port Renfrew has a lot to offer from the months of June to October. We have both onshore and offshore fishing that is world class. Moored at Butch’s Wharf & Marina in the San Juan River.
Offshore Fishing:
Offshore fishing out of Port Renfrew includes opportunities to catch Halibut, Cod, and up to 4 different species of Salmon depending on the year. We depart at approximately 6:00 am and arrive back at approximately 3:00pm. If we should be fortunate to land our limit in three of the targeted species we return at that time.
The fishing grounds around the Swiftsure bank are rich with feed, Humpback Whales, birds and most importantly, fish! You will have opportunities at Chinook Salmon up to 60 pounds and Halibut up to 300 pounds. Other species we catch offshore include: Ling Cod, Red Snapper, Pacific Grey Cod and several species of Rock Cod. On rare occasions we have also caught Black Cod.
- Full Days Only – 8 hours of fishing. Time starts upon departure.
- 2 People – $1000
- 3 – 4 People – $1150
Shoreline Fishing:
June to August provides some excellent opportunities onshore from Port Renfrew and San Juan Bay up the coast as far as the Nitnat Lake for some Trophy Chinook Salmon. By mid September, the Chinook fishing starts slowing down as the fish pass on to the rivers to spawn. The Northern Coho start showing up in mid September and have been caught all the way up to 27 pounds. The San Juan River Hatchery has been producing and releasing thousands of Coho Salmon for over 30 years. The results are unreal, with Coho recorded weighing up to 30 pounds by the hatchery while doing the brewed stock. Now that’s worth fishing for!
